Canvas

Hi there!

So today, I've been working on something that has been rolling around in my head for a while now, and I've finally finished it off! Such a good feeling when you get an idea out of your head and onto the page, or canvas, or whatever it may be.

The lovely Chantalle McDaniel cut out some words for me that mean a lot to me, and I've been wanting to use them on a canvas such as this.  Today, that happened! :)

Without further ado, here it is!

This is a fairly image-heavy post, as I've take lots of close up pics so you can see all the textures in this canvas.  Rather than comment on each photo, I'll write a quick summary now, and then let you enjoy browsing.
I used many different mediums in creating this canvas, including black gesso, gelatos, tissue paper, mod podge, gel medium, Dylusions ink spray, chalkboard mist, embossing powders, stamps, stamping ink, stencils and whipped spackle, and that's just for creating the background.  For the embellishments, I've used Prima flowers, buttons, butterfly and packaging, as well as fussy-cutting from Prima papers, plus plasterer's tape, Imaginarium Designs chipboard, wire, alphabet stickers, and of course, the die cut words "guard you heart", which are taken from one of my favourite bible verses.  So, there you have a quick rundown.  Enjoy browsing the pictures :)

I hope you've enjoyed this post.  I certainly had a ball creating this piece!

* green glitter frame
* leaves (including some glitter leaves)
* feathers
* mini butterflies

Here is my page, and some close ups so you can see the gorgeous embellies.

Off The Rails Challenge May

Hi again,

Today I want to share with you the latest challenge over at Off The Rails Scrapbooking - it's all about Stripes and Polka Dots!  Who doesn't love some good pattern work.  Be sure to head over and check out all the inspiration from the DT girls - they have provided ample eye candy for you all!!

Here is my sample, and some close ups:

I'm really loving punchinella at the moment, and I used it as a stencil with inks for a polka dot effect, as well as an embellishment under my photo.

I also used some polka dot fabric covered buttons from the Catie's Craft Corner shop.

As for stripes, you can see here, I've used a stamp to create some grungy lines on various areas of the page.

... plus some zebra stripes on the button below ;)

I hope you will give this challenge a go - it's great to step outside the square and combine patterns every now and then!

Thanks for looking. Warmest wishes, Catie xo

May Challenges!

Hello, hello!

Can you believe it is May already?  I can't!

So, I've had a busy few weeks preparing my DT pages for this month, and I can tell you, there is an amazing selection of challenges on the go for you to choose from this month!

The current challenge is to scrap a picture of yourself as a baby, and record anything unusual or interesting (are you a twin? Were you ill a lot as a baby?)  Quite often, we're so busy recording our childrens' lives, that we forget to record details about our own childhood, which is just as important for our children to know!

Here is my sample page:

This chippie is some of the gorgeous ones I won from Imaginarium Designs.  I coloured them with a white Stamper's Big Brush pen from Faber Castell.

I've discovered a slight obsession with plasterer's tape now... love the texture it gives.  The man at the hardware store didn't look amused when I went in and asked for the 'stuff they use when they're patching up walls'... hehehe.  The birds are more chippies from Imaginarium Designs, and these ones, I coloured with gelatos then stamped with Staz On.

I recently bought some Heidi Swapp plastic embellishments - you can just see the butterfly peeking out the top here, and the flower in the top right hand corner of the photos.

Finally, my journaling is tucked in behind the photos, and talks about various memories of my childhood and my dad.  One funny one is how he came home from bush (work) one day, and had grown a beard.  I wouldn't go anywhere near him, as I didn't recognise him with the beard!!

There is the most gorgeous mood board this month, called "Peach Cooler".  You're going to love this!

Isn't is just divine?!

Here's my sample page and close ups:

I loved the colours in this mood board.  And there are so many gorgeous embellishments available from the D-Lish shop that with suit this challenge perfectly.  Be sure to check out the Just Add Paper Kit - it's AMAZING!

All these beautiful embellies can be found in the shop!

This month, we have a fab sketch by Amanda Hartmann.

The only other criteria you need to meet is that your layout MUST have flowers on it (because Mother's Day is just around the corner!).  Other than that, you can interpret and use the sketch anyway you like.  Easy, yes?  Our sponsor for this challenge is Molossi! You don't want to miss out on entering this one!!

Here is my take on the challenge.  I ended up flipping the sketch, to suit what I wanted to do.  There is a bit of a story behind all the flowers....

We were working out how many flowers needed to be included on the layout, and I jokingly suggested 420.  So, I accepted my own challenge, and did a layout that has at least 420 flowers on it - I kind of lost count!! LOL.  My handmade items are the Felt Flutterby and Fabric Covered Buttons from Catie's Craft Corner, and the Heavenly Heart from Charm's Creations.

Have fun with this sketch - can't wait to see how you all use it!

Thanks for looking.  Warmest wishes, Catie xo
